• Jean W. Raines Distinguished Service Award Members are encouraged to participate in the awards program. A candidate may be nominated by any HCEA member. Members may also nominate themselves for an award. With the exception of the Outstanding Research Award, candidates must be current members of HCEA. 2007 HCEA Award Winners Congratulations to these outstanding HCEA members for winning the 2007 awards!
The Jean Raines Distinguished Service Award is awarded to a
member of HCEA who has demonstrated outstanding service and support of the organization. This year HCEA honors someone who has been a board member well beyond expected terms; someone who has gone above and beyond to ensure
fiscal security of HCEA; someone who has been serving on conference planning committees since 2003 and has also been honored more than once for her work in patient and community
education. On this the tenth anniversary of HCEA it is with particular thanks that HCEA presents the Jean Raines Distinguished Service Award to Diane Moyer, MS, BSN, RN. Outstanding Research Award This award honors someone who advances the practice of healthcare education and has major implications for healthcare educators. HCEA is proud to honor Benjamin Levy III and the Music Inspires Health Initiative with the Outstanding Research Award. Mr. Levy founded the Music Inspires Health Initiative, which pioneers a unique
approach – the pairing of health information provided by physicians and the celebrity endorsement of musicians who are popular among teens and adults. Excellence in Practice Award - Staff Development This award recognizes a member of HCEA who has initiated innovation and effective
practices, intervention or programs in staff development. HCEA is proud to present this award to someone who can be described as a Healthcare Entrepreneur, a
Healthcare Consultant specializing in performance improvement, accreditation & healthcare education. The recipient of this award has been described as “a winner
because her quest for distinction is apparent in everything she does.” She has authored or co-authored over 100 programs and patient teaching materials as a
support to staff. She has been a speaker both locally and nationally in areas of adult teaching and cultural competency. She is a founding member and past
president of HCEA and the founder of Hawaii Society of Healthcare Education & training. HCEA is honored to present this award to Nancy Walch, RN, BSN, MPH, CHES, CCHON, NHA.
This award recognizes a member of HCEA who has initiated innovative and effective practices, or programs in patient/community education. The recipient of this award and I quote, “has initiated the
most innovative and effective program in community education I have seen at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. As Child Passenger Safety Coordinator, she provided education and safety seats to over 300 families; she
successfully engaged Spanish-speaking mothers; she taught inner city moms how to keep their school-aged children safe while riding in cars, truck and vans; then she took their motivation
into the creation of child passenger safety advocacy groups." HCEA awards
