About HCEA

Health Care Education Association

is a multi-disciplinary professional organization comprised of health care educators who are committed to improving healthcare outcomes through evidence-based patient, family, consumer, community and staff education, resource development and communications.

We are inclusive of educators from across the continuum of care and our membership represents large and small, rural and urban healthcare facilities. Our focus is geared toward patient, family and consumer health education, including processes, practices, and regulations provided by the full allied health care team. This may include such topics as health literacy, patient engagement, patient-entered care and documentation.

HCEA strives to be the premier organization where health care educators from various disciplines collaborate to support competent health education practices and high quality health care for all.

HCEA Mission: We are an inter-professional organization that advocates for evidence-based health education for patients and consumers. We promote optimal health by working with health care professionals to build knowledge, networks, and partnerships.

HCEA Objectives:

  • Provide opportunities for the professional development of health care educators.
     
  • Provide relevant resources, reference tools and information on health care education products and services, especially in the field of patient and family education.
     
  • Demonstrate the value of a comprehensive approach to health care education and training as an effective management strategy for achieving institutional and individual goals.
     
  • Participate in and recommend action on national issues relative to health care education, with a special focus on patient and family education.
     
  • Encourage collaboration and networking among professionals and organizations involved in health care education.
